The CBS Story

Our History

During its early years what was to become the CBS Institute had its home at various churches.

The school had a fresh beginning in 1993 at an office building in Cubao, Quezon City, as the Metro Manila School of the Bible. Then in 1993, the Instituted merged with the seminary to become the CBS Institute and Seminary. At this time the school found its permanent home on its newly built campus in Antipolo.

As a result of this history, several members of the administration and faculty have worked together for over thirty years, sharing a common vision to train men and women in the Scriptures and for Christian ministry. The team is now complemented by many other talented teachers and co-workers. Throughout its history, the Institute has seen several hundred graduates go into the Lord’s work.

The Seminary began as an experiment in 1982. Graduates of the Institute who had done exceptionally well in their studies were aware of their need for further training. During the 1982-1983 academic year, three of these graduates met with two Institute instructors from the Christian Training and Missionary Fellowship for informal advanced studies in theology and New Testament Greek. All three students were by this time full-time pastors. A unique concept of graduate study began to develop. The Seminary now offers a program leading to a Masters’s degree with an emphasis on biblical studies. Over the years this program has gained a reputation for its strength in both biblical languages and theology.

Both the Institute and Seminary are now poised for even greater growth and effectiveness.

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Biblical Studies Institute and Seminary has always been the same: to prepare students for the spread of the gospel and the building up of local churches in the Philippines and throughout the world. CBS aims to do this by training men and women for commitment to Christ, a life of godliness, and excellence in Christian service.

Academically, our passion is to have a Christ-centered view of all things — gained by a careful study of the Bible through godly and responsible scholarship. Such knowledge and wisdom, however, is always pursued with a view to God’s glory, the service of the church, and the spread of the gospel.

Beliefs

The Center for Biblical Studies stands on the Bible as the Triune God’s inspired Word. Our beliefs align with the fundamental doctrines of Christianity, with Christ’s person and work serving as the center. Our worldview is shaped by the Bible’s narrative of creation, fall, redemption, and the final return of the Lord Jesus to make all things new.
We place an emphasis on discipleship and Christ’s call to participate in God’s global mission. Our distinctive tradition is baptist, but as a part of the Body of Christ, we seek to serve all sincere Bible-believing Christians.
